Glossary#

Key terms and metrics used throughout the web app.


Compute Capping#

A spending limit expressed in Swiss Francs (CHF) that restricts the total estimated compute cost for a user or an account over a billing cycle. When a user's compute spending approaches or reaches their capping, their jobs may be held or rejected by the scheduler.

  • Account-level capping — applies to the account as a whole.
  • Member-level capping — applies to an individual user within an account; set by the account admin.

Consolidated Infrastructure Cost#

An estimated cost in Swiss Francs calculated from your resource usage and SCITAS pricing rates. This figure is for informational purposes only. It may differ from the amounts on official SCITAS invoices, which are the authoritative source for billing.


CPU Hours#

The total number of CPU core-hours consumed by your jobs. For example, a job using 8 cores for 2 hours consumes 16 CPU hours.


eCO₂ / Carbon Footprint#

Estimated CO₂-equivalent emissions (in kilograms) produced by your compute jobs, based on the energy consumption of the hardware and the carbon intensity of the local electricity grid. Storage usage is not included in this estimate.


GPU Hours#

The total number of GPU-hours consumed by your jobs. For example, a job using 2 GPUs for 3 hours consumes 6 GPU hours.


GPU Type#

The model of GPU used (for example, H100, L40s).


Inodes#

A count of files and directories. Each file and each directory on a filesystem occupies one inode. The Inodes column in the Storage table shows the average number of inodes used over the selected period.


Jobs#

The number of individual jobs submitted to the HPC scheduler (e.g., Slurm) during the selected period. One job may use many cores or GPUs.


Storage Categories#

Storage on SCITAS clusters in three categories

  • Storage for HPC
  • Storage for HPC - backup
  • Archive LTO

Storage Size [TB]#

Average storage usage in terabytes over the selected period, sampled approximately twice per day. Because it is an average, it is most meaningful when the selected period is a full calendar month.


Storage Cost [CHF]#

Estimated cost for storage usage over the selected period, calculated as: average storage size × price per TB per period. Like the storage size, this figure is most accurate for full-month periods.
