Scheduled Summer 2025 Maintenance#
As part of our regular maintenance operations and in coordination with the
EPFL Data Center Service, a site-wide maintenance is scheduled from
Wednesday, July 9 to Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
During this period, the EPFL Data Center team will carry out electrical maintenance
on the racks hosting SCITAS equipment. As a result, all SCITAS systems will be powered down.
Impact and Schedule#
We will take advantage of this downtime to perform our annual maintenance operations, including:
- Operating system upgrades to RHEL 9.4, along with driver and firmware updates on the Jed and Kuma clusters.
- Firmware upgrades on all SCITAS network switches.
- OS, driver, and Spectrum Scale upgrades across all storage systems.
- Software stack recompilation on kuma to match the new OS and installation of the new software stack on jed
Service availability will resume in stages as follows:
- Monday, July 7: Storage Infrastructure upgrade begins, some slowdown may occur.
- Wednesday, July 9: All SCITAS clusters and storage infrastructure will be unavailable.
- Thursday, July 10: The Helvetios and Izar clusters will be available. Data access will be possible via the Izar front-end. Jed and Kuma will remain unavailable.
- Friday, July 11: The Kuma cluster will return to service by the end of the day.
- Tuesday, July 15: The Jed cluster will return to service by the end of the day.
We encourage you to take this maintenance window into account for your planning.
If you have any questions or specific needs, please contact us at 1234@epfl.ch, including the keyword HPC in the subject line.
Following the maintenance if your simulation are using the software stack you may need to reconfigure
and recompile your codes. On jed if you load the modules with version numbers please update your scripts.
In addition due to the change of version of the OS we will not be able to provide a deprecated version of the software stack.
